Guidelines for In-Person Worship

Geneva United Methodist Church

Plan for Resumption of In-Person Worship

WHEREAS, Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on countless lives worldwide, and altered our day-to-day life.
WHEREAS, the new reality will be an altered version of our previous reality.
WHEREAS, we want to make every effort to maintain the health & safety of our members & friends; and
WHEREAS, we do not want our church to be ‘ground zero’ of a new outbreak.

that, when we do resume in-person worship…

…the number of attendees will be limited to 90.
…the ushers will maintain the count of attendees, and when 90 is reached, they will invite additional potential attendees to return home to watch the service online.
…the Fellowship Hall will not be used as overflow seating.
…only the main sanctuary doors will be unlocked.
…masks are required for everyone in attendance for the duration of the service.
…seating will be based on the “six feet of separation rule”.
…attendees will be ushered to their seat one person/group at a time, starting in the front of the sanctuary
…those waiting to be seated will remain six feet away from all others who are waiting.
…the names of all attendees will be recorded by one person for contact-tracing purposes
…all items will be removed from the pews.
…no food or drinks will be allowed in the sanctuary.
…there will be no bulletins.
…there will be no passing of the peace.
…there will be no passing of the offering plate.  A plate will be placed near the rear of the  sanctuary for attendees to drop their offering as their pew is dismissed to exit the service.
…there will be no children’s time.
…there will be no nursery available.
…each pew will be dismissed one at a time in order to maintain the six-foot rule, starting in the back of the sanctuary
…there will be no coffee provided, nor time allowed for gathering / fellowship.
…all pews, doorknobs, and surfaces will be cleaned/disinfected between services.

Those not adhering to these guidelines and rules will be asked to leave the premises and invited to worship with us online.  In the event that someone refuses to adhere to these guidelines, and refuses to leave the premises, the service will end, and everyone will be sent home.
